Throughout all these tribulations, you did, however have the comforting knowedge that your vineyard soil was of world class quality...

It is true to say that Carbonnieux has a microclimate that is extremely conducive to winegrowing. This is due to the the estate's position on a rise, the effect of the nearby Garonne river and Eau Blanche stream, and the excellent quality of the gravelly soil.

Furthermore, the proximity of Bordeaux has the effect of increasing the temperature by an average of 2° or 3°C in winter, and the oppo-site effect when the weather is hot.

All these factors combine to make the vines at Carbonnieux exceptionally early-maturing, while not especially prone to spring frosts. The variety of soils, the size of the estate - 90 hectares, of which 47 are planted with red wine grapes and 43 with white grapes - and the use of the best-adapted grape varieties explain how we can produce quality wines of great complexity.
