Chateau Lafont Menaut takes its name from "La Fontaine de Menaut", a fountain found on the estate.

The chateau is located 15 kilometres south of Bordeaux in the village of Martillac, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. In the 18th century the land was part of the adjoining Rochemorin estate. At this time, it was owned by Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, who was not only a famous writer, but also a winegrower.

The terrain consists of a series of superb gravel outcrops. Six years ago, Philibert Perrin, from a family of winegrowers owning Chateau Carbonnieux (among other estates), undertook an extensive replanting programme, breathing new life into the vineyard.

The 10 hectares of vines have not only fine soil, but also outstanding sun exposure.
The red wine grapes - 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot - cover 7 hectares. The remaining 3 hectares are devoted to white wine varieties (70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon).
Both white and red wines are aged in oak-barrels, which gives them finesse and complexity. The white wine is fresh and fruity. Although enjoyable young, the Sémillon grapes and barrel ageing mean that it can also improve in bottle. The red wines develop a beautiful bouquet reminiscent of red fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry etc.).

Cabernet Sauvignon provides them with a tannic richness that is highlighted by the "smoky" taste typical of wines from the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
